Any cyclist or pedestrian knows that Mission District drivers aren’t exactly models for patience behind the wheel, but driving techniques in the area just hit a new low. After leading police on a high-speed pursuit from Daly City, a woman brought the chase to an abrupt halt Wednesday at about 11 p.m. by crashing into a home at 23rd Street and Potrero Avenue, according to a report from ABC KGO-TV.

I guess a car driving into your living room while you’re watching television puts a whole new spin on reality TV.

In further proof that the Mission is grittier than what gets transmitted on screen, SF Gate reports today that actor Christopher Borgzinner was severely beaten on a Muni bus on Monday on his way into the Mission for an acting class.

Borgzinner played a street-thug in the movie “La Mission,” about the life and conflicts of a Latino family in the Mission, which premiered earlier this year. According to SF Gate, Borgzinner has never actually been in a gang, but was attacked by thugs because he was wearing red shoes, a color claimed by the Mission’s Norteño gang.

Sincere condolences go out to the actor, who is recovering and has been released from the hospital.

Another aspect of street culture hits the Bay Area this weekend, with a graffiti battle to name the nation’s top aerosol artist being held in Oakland on Saturday. If that’s not reason enough to drag yourself across the Bay tomorrow, you can catch works by the artists who have qualified for the competition at First Amendment Gallery (aka 1AM), located at 1000 Howard St. Today is the last day of the show, so don’t miss it! Check out this article from SF Gate for more info.

Finally, about 135 artists will open up their studios for exhibition this weekend at Art Explosion Gallery at 2425 17th Street. The event runs Friday to Sunday and there are opening reception happens tonight at three spots in the Mission. More details on that are available here.

The weekend’s finally here! Hopefully nobody drives a car into your living room or beats you up on the bus.
